WELCOME to my first posting in my “newly-born” blog. I decided to start my own blog for three reasons:

First, I read a book “Writing Your Dissertation in Fifteen Minutes a Day” authored by Joan Bolker. This book is influential in pushing myself to be comfortable with writing, particularly English writing. Yes, I am still in my doctoral study and I hope this blog will facilitate me to become a speedy writer. Bolker’s main argument is that writing is a habit and we can start to have one by regularly write any subject in mind for at least 15 minutes a day. You may not find me writing that fast, but you can expect a few postings from now on in this blog.

Next reason, I focus on issues of sustainability because we are now in a critical point to addressing the change of our global environment. It is scientifically proven, however, it is also widely debated, particularly when it is discussed in the context of climate change. While sustainability is not going to be the sole topic of this blog, many postings will be situated around that topic. Considering my background, interests, and dissertation topic, issues on sustainability in this blog will be framed in the area of transportation, architecture and urban planning.

Postings will also include discussions about Indonesia, my home country where I would like to apply my knowledge. Indonesia is among developing countries that experience high risks from global climate change, yet limited discussions in connecting the issue to current Indonesian national development both in a policy level as well as in a community level. It is my hope that this blog could enrich our understanding in the matters.

I hope you find this blog useful.
